Saturday’s match (20th Sept) saw the 2004’s squad entertain the usually excellent Haddington 04’s at Memorial Park Gullane. The team got off to a slow start but eventually found their passing boots and started to enjoy stringing passes together. A couple of long range efforts from Archie paved the way for what to come. Despite a good effort from the Haddington keeper he was unable to keep out a strong shot from Archie. It remained 1 – 0 until a deflected shot took the ball past from the ever improving Ali in goals. The work with his goalkeeping coach is evident with more confidence in coming out to close down attackers. The 2nd period continued in the same way with Ella spearheading the attack with the Gullane team producing some super passing movements, and one in particular where Robbie produced the pass of the match to Cole who slotted home to go 2-1 up. Haddington levelled before the end of the 2nd period. The 3rd period saw the team take their play up a notch with superb play from all players. Special mention must go to Arran and Jack Jarvis for their defensive tackling. Finn playing up front linked well with Shona and Jamie who played some great crosses into the box from where Gullane scored early on in the 3rd period. Final word of the day goes to Gullane’s own Messi – Robbie produced a dribbling masterclass to score Gullane’s 5th goal, his Dad did try to take the credit for this (unbelievable).
All in all the 2004’s played really well against a very good team that is always tough to play against.
