2004 Match Report Sat 25th

The 2004s from Gullane Athletic arrived at a windy Musselburgh off the back of an impressive run of displays that saw them unbeaten in the last three outings. Saturday would offer a test of their progress without coach Mackie to provide his unique blend of tactical awareness and inspired motivation, and the team coming off a two-week break. Odds were further against the squad when it became apparent that they would need to play two of the 15 minute sessions uphill and into the strong wind. The first period was hard fought by both teams and while Gullane struggled to make progress in the conditions Musselburgh found the visitor's defence just as challenging. The back three of Aaron, Angus and Ali gave a master-class in defending and were well protected…

Confident return to action – 2003 match report

The 2003s got back into action with an away game vs Dunbar, who had inflicted the only defeat on the team since the summer in the home fixture. At a windy 3G pitch in Dunbar we lined up against the wind and the team were … simply fantastic! From the kick off the team passed the ball well, supported each other and led 7-1 at half time, our best half of football all season. Dunbar came back into the game in the 2nd half as we made changes but the team stood firm and we ran out 13 – 7 (I think). As always, it is not about the winning but the enjoyment of the players and the performance. Calumn was assured as ever between the sticks, helped by great tackling at the…

Derby Delight – 2004 Match Report 4th October 2014

The final match before the October school break saw the 2004 team up against near neighbours NB Colts. Despite horrendous conditions with heavy rain and cool breeze the pitch at Gullane stood up well as did the players. The excellent passing that was evident over the past couple of weeks was again a feature of the game. We are fortunate to have a larger squad now but that brings its own problems i.e. not being able to play all the squad. The 10 that did play shared the goals amongst themselves with Archie scoring a thunderbolt with the coach demanding he pass the ball ( coach wrong again!) Cole showed an excellent touch playing up front with Jamie and Robbie combining well on the right to deliver crosses into the…

Delayed Coach Delighted – Match Report 27 September 2014

Despite the late arrival of the team coach, the 2004s put in another excellent performance away at Pencaitland. Despite an earlier start which has in the past caught the team half asleep this week saw them bright and breezy in the 1st 15 mins with some excellent play all around. Goals were shared around the team and with Ali having a couple of good saves the team were 4-1 ahead. As ever the scoreline is not the important factor with the continued improved passing being the most pleasing aspect. Saturday saw another debut with Angus joining the team. Despite not playing for a few weeks he fitted right in and will hopefully go and enjoy his football with Gullane. The match also saw Arran and Harvey getting their 1st goals…

Tough day at the office – 2003 Match Report

Tough day at the office for the 2003’s as we played as strong Dunbar side with a number of players unavailable. Playing with just 7 in the squad, the team really pulled together to support each other with Daniel leading from the front, back and basically everywhere. The defence played well with some great composure from Jasmine and Wil again impressing at left back, Dylan  impressing in midfield with some good tackling supported by Archie on the other side getting up and down the flank with some strong shots. Shay led the line well with some nice touches and mazy dribbling with Calumn making some great saves in goal. All looking forward to our last game before the break; away to Port Seton, Kick off time TBC Tom

Dribbling Masterclass – 2004 match report

Saturday's match (20th Sept) saw the 2004's squad entertain the usually excellent Haddington 04's at Memorial Park Gullane. The team got off to a slow start but eventually found their passing boots and started to enjoy stringing passes together. A couple of long range efforts from Archie paved the way for what to come. Despite a good effort from the Haddington keeper he was unable to keep out a strong shot from Archie. It remained 1 - 0 until a deflected shot took the ball past from the ever improving Ali in goals. The work with his goalkeeping coach is evident with more confidence in coming out to close down attackers. The 2nd period continued in the same way with Ella spearheading the attack with the Gullane team producing some super passing movements, and one in particular where Robbie produced the…

Derby draw – 2003 Match Report

Another thrilling derby game against our local rival North Berwick. Gullane raced into a 2 0 lead with goals from Stuart and Myles, with North Berwick then pegging us back to 2 -2 and that set the tone for the afternoon. The game finished 7 - 7 with Myles leading the way with 4 goals , Stuart, Shay and Dylan also finding the target. As always Calumn kept us in the game with a number of fine saves, Wil having another good game at left back with some good tackling, Itske marauding down the flank at right back. Daniel marshalling the midfield well , Stuart involved in all areas of the pitch and finishing the game at centre back. A special mention for Archie this week with some barnstorming runs…

World Class Saves and Hat Tricks

Our 2004's squad played a very good Longniddry Villa team this morning at Memorial Park Gullane. After a slow start the team played really well with some excellent passing and movement. Today saw the home debuts for Ella and Harvey and they have already added to the team's quality. Our goalkeeper Ali made a number of very good stops, but one save in particular was World Class, managing to get a strong hand to a shot that was bound for the top corner to knock it over the bar. His goalie coach Jamie would have been impressed. At the other end, Cole - our striker for the day - showed his killer instinct with 3 superbly taken strikes.  With excellent defending from Jack J supported by good forward play from Robbie as well the combined usual high…
